A veteran of grand opera, concert and musical theater stages, Michele Henderson has been a professional singer for over twenty-five years in the U.S. and Europe. She received her Bachelor of Music degree in Vocal Performance from the Conservatory of Music in Freiburg, Germany where she also studied theater arts and conducting. Together with her husband William Carey and son John, Michele relocated here from southern California in 1996. As a singing teacher with the Carey & Henderson Vocal Studios in Nashua, Michele is especially dedicated to the development of young vocal talent. Her music directing credits include A Christmas Carol and The Pirates of Penzance from the American Stage Festival and Peacock Players, and Camelot and Titanic for the Actorsingers.
A critically acclaimed performer in Europe and the United States, Michele Henderson has a wealth of personal experience on stage in opera and musical theatre. Ms. Henderson has done American musical theater in both the U.S. and in Europe, appearing in the West German premieres of Cabaret and Show Boat at the renowned Theater des Westens in Berlin. She sang the role of "Nettie" in Carousel in Los Angeles and was "Pitti Sing" in Jonathan Miller's internationally acclaimed production of The Mikado with the Los Angeles Opera.
As an opera singer, she appeared in many roles throughout Europe and in the U.S. with such companies as Los Angeles Opera, Cleveland Opera, Arizona Opera, Baton Rouge Opera, as well as the Long Beach, Eugene, and Connecticut opera companies, among others. Favorite roles included Carmen, Dorabella, Prince Orlofsky, Lucretia and Maddalena. Her concert credits include solo engagements with a number of major symphony orchestras and choral societies including the Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, the Cleveland Orchestra, the Milwaukee Symphony and the William Hall Chorale and Roger Wagner Chorale. Locally, Ms. Henderson has appeared with the Nashua Symphony Orchestra as mezzo-soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah, Rossini's Petite Messe Solonelle and Beethoven's Mass in C.
A native Californian, Michele has made her home in New Hampshire since 1995. Together with her husband and fellow voice teacher William Carey, she runs the Carey & Henderson Vocal Studios and is especially dedicated to the development of young vocal talent. A well-trained and experienced choral conductor and seminar director, she has a special flair for working with adolescents and young adults.
In addition to her teaching, Ms. Henderson is also active in regional professional and community theater as a music director and conductor. Among the productions she has musically directed for local companies are Camelot, A Christmas Carol, Pirates of Penzance, The Sound of Music, Titanic, Ragtime, Man of La Mancha, Showtune, Jekyll & Hyde and the New Hampshire Musical Theater Awards I and II.
Michele Henderson and William Carey are co-founders of Stagecoach Productions, which just finished its highly successful inaugural season.
